Keep student projects working after grading

By Dr. Z · Version 1 · Updated Oct 31, 2026

Review / Rate Project

The idea

A proposed e Project Based Service Learning pilot would preserve course projects in online galleries, invite peer feedback and revisions, and connect suitable work with community causes and sponsors. Mathematics would be the starting point, with other subjects and institutions as possible later partners. The original 2020–2021 proposal requested $98,000. That is a historical estimate requiring repricing. The current aim is to obtain institutional review and design a feasible pilot. A possible route to textbook support needs a defined funding and distribution mechanism; it is not part of the original budget and no student earnings are promised.

Who benefits

Students who can reuse their work in portfolios, learn from peers, and build on earlier projects; faculty developing reusable teaching resources; community organizations contributing suitable problems. Potential textbook assistance remains to be designed.

The earlier proposal

Dr. Z reports submitting the proposal to campus leadership at Keiser University, where he taught mathematics and physics. To his knowledge, it was not forwarded to Central Office or submitted to the Arthur Vining Davis Foundations. This is a case of a proposal stalled internally, rather than a foundation rejection. A revised discussion draft was prepared on October 31, 2026. Institutional sponsorship, current costs, and funder eligibility remain to be confirmed.

Constructive review

Suggest a path forward.

Consider the project before reading other reviews. What is promising? What needs evidence? What could the author try next?

See the proposal rating rubric

Three independent scores, each from 1 to 5. This is our community rubric, informed by established proposal review criteria. A useful local project can have high impact; a familiar idea can still be valuable. These scores are not a funding decision.

Originality

What is new or meaningfully adapted compared with existing approaches?

  1. Familiar approach with no clear adaptation
  2. Minor variation on an existing approach
  3. Useful new combination or adaptation
  4. Distinctive approach with a clear difference
  5. Strongly original approach with a well-supported comparison

Potential Impact

If successful, how meaningful would the benefit be for the people or problem identified?

  1. Little benefit explained
  2. Limited or unclear benefit
  3. Meaningful benefit for a defined group
  4. Substantial benefit with a credible explanation
  5. Exceptional benefit for the identified need, with a strong rationale

How Realistic

Can a useful first version be tested with a credible plan, time, budget, and skills?

  1. Major practical barriers are unaddressed
  2. Major gaps in the plan or resources
  3. Plausible pilot with some gaps to resolve
  4. Workable pilot plan with risks and resources considered
  5. Clear, testable plan with credible resources, timing, and risk management
